Why I Started Days Like This Counselling

There are moments in life when things feel manageable, and then there are days when everything feels a little heavier.

Sometimes there is an obvious reason. A relationship changes. Work becomes overwhelming. A loss occurs. Anxiety becomes harder to manage. A family situation becomes complicated.

Other times, there isn't one specific event at all. You may simply realize that the ways you've always managed stress, relationships, or difficult emotions aren't working quite as well anymore.

Those are often the moments when people begin thinking about counselling.

And they are a big part of why I created Days Like This Counselling.

My Experience as a Counsellor

I am a registered Social Worker (BSW, MSW, RSW) in good standing with the college. Throughout my work in the counselling field since 2011, I have had the opportunity to support people through many different stages and circumstances in their lives.

One of the things this work continues to remind me is just how different each person's experience can be.

Two people can face similar circumstances and experience them completely differently. Our relationships, families, identities, past experiences, responsibilities and the environments around us all influence the way we experience life's challenges.

That is why I don't believe counselling should ever feel like a one-size-fits-all process.

For me, therapy starts with listening.

It means understanding what is happening in your life, what matters to you, what you've already been carrying, and what you would like to be different.

Creating a Different Kind of Space

One of my goals with Days Like This Counselling is to create a space that feels professional without feeling clinical.

Therapy can involve difficult conversations, but the relationship between a client and counsellor should still feel human.

I want you to feel comfortable bringing the complicated parts of life into the room—the thoughts you aren't quite sure how to explain, the situations where there isn't an obvious answer, and even the things you may feel hesitant to say out loud.

My approach is collaborative. I draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Feminist Therapy, but those approaches are tools rather than a formula.

You are the expert on your own life.

My role is to help you explore what is happening, recognize patterns, understand your experiences differently and find practical ways to move toward where you would like to be.

Why “Days Like This”?

Have you ever heard the song by the same name? It captures life beautifully!

We all have days like this.

Days when we're overwhelmed.

Days when relationships feel complicated.

Days when our confidence disappears.

Days when we're exhausted from holding everything together.

Days when something from our past suddenly feels very present.

And days when we're not really sure why we're struggling at all.

Needing support during those moments isn't unusual. It's part of being human.

You also don't have to wait until things become unbearable before asking for help.

Counselling can be a place to slow things down, make sense of what you're experiencing and decide what your next step might be.

Starting Wherever You Are

Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you've never done it before.

You may wonder whether your situation is “serious enough” for counselling, what you're supposed to talk about, or whether you'll even know where to begin.

You don't have to prepare the perfect explanation.

You don't need a diagnosis.

And you don't need to arrive with a list of goals.

We can start with what's happening today.

Days Like This Counselling offers virtual and telephone counselling for people aged 17 and older, with flexible daytime, evening and weekend availability.

If you're wondering whether counselling might be right for you, I also offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can briefly talk about what you're looking for, answer any questions you may have and determine whether working together feels like a good fit.

Wherever you're starting from, you're welcome here.

Some days are harder than others. You don't have to navigate them alone.
